Heidi, the National Training Coordinator for David Mandel & Associates, has over 20 years experience in the sexual and domestic violence field. She has worked in crisis counseling, program and policy development and advocacy in both the United States and Canada. As a member of the Prince Edward Island Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention, Heidi helped develop a child welfare domestic violence screening protocol.
Heidi received a Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in domestic violence from University of Colorado at Denver, the only program of its kind in the country. In her current role she delivers Safe and Together to diverse audiences across the country.
Heidi’s work has emphasized community collaboration, trauma informed practice, self-care strategies for secondary trauma in professionals and the intersection of child development, domestic violence and trauma. With a commitment to an ecological approach to prevention and intervention, she has developed and delivered trainings to children, parents and teachers to support a safe and trauma informed educational environment. She has provided training and technical assistance on the intersection of dating violence and substance abuse for adolescent addiction programs. As a community educator, she piloted innovative interactive training technology to support healthy social norms with youth. Heidi is experienced working with a range of vulnerable populations including the elderly, youth experiencing trauma, developmentally delayed, people dealing with substance abuse, homelessness, and welfare-to-work programs.
