Julie is an experienced social worker and trainer who works as the Senior Practice Development & Learning Consultant in the Berry Street Childhood Institute. Julie has a strong practice background working with children, young people and caregivers in Foster Care with an emphasis on therapeutic parenting.
Julie was involved in the development and implementation of Victoria’s pilot therapeutic foster care program and was the senior trainer for the development and delivery of training and support to therapeutic residential care across NT and Victoria.
Julie has worked nationally in providing training, supervision and consultancy to a range of professionals across the welfare, child protection and education sectors. She has had responsibility of the design, development and delivery of training programs with a focus on trauma, disrupted attachment and interpersonal neurobiology as well as accredited training in Child, Youth & Families Intervention and Fields of Practice – Family Violence for Latrobe University Social Work & Social Policy.
She is currently working on a project in partnership with the Centre of Research on Children and Families at the University of East Anglia UK on the implementation of the Secure Base Model across Berry Street’s Foster and Kinship Care programs.
Julie has a focus on building capacity and confidence of practitioners and caregivers in caring for vulnerable children. She is committed to improving the outcomes for children and young people in out of home care, and maintains a strong focus on relationship based healing.
