From Category to Strategy:
New Understandings of Attachment and Development
- 28 March 2019
- 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM
This workshop is part of the Child and Family Wellbeing series. These workshops have been categorised into three levels to help you determine which workshop is right for you depending on your level of practice experience and your professional development goals. From Category to Strategy: New Understandings of Attachment and Development sits within Level 2: Digging Deeper
Attachment theory has often been understood as just that, a theory. Attachment theory has provided us with a classification system for understanding what leads to a ‘secure’ or ‘insecure’ attachment.
As useful as this guide is, it can also be restrictive. We can begin to categorise young people and favour one pattern of attachment as ‘healthy’ whilst all other attachment patterns are considered to be ‘unhealthy’.
But what if we shifted our approach and began to consider attachment patterns, as ‘strategies for safety’? What if all attachment patterns were vital to our ability to develop and engage with the changing world we live in? How would this change the way we work with children and families?
Drawing on the internationally acclaimed work of Patricia Crittenden and her Dynamic Maturational Model, this 1-day workshop will provide you with a new twist on Attachment theory.
The workshop will introduce you to the Dynamic Maturational Model and then demonstrate its application as we explore emotional and relational development. You will be provided with a new theoretical perspective and space to reflect on how you can incorporate the model into your daily practice with children and families.
- Develop new understandings of Attachment Theory
- Develop new understandings of emotional and relational development
